78 years ago today and yesterday, on 6th and 7th May 1941, Greenock experienced some of its worst days of World War 2. 271 people were killed and 10,200 people were injured during the two nights of the Greenock Blitz.

While many people died on battlefields far from home, we should never forget the thousands of people in our area who were killed and their families whose lives changed forever.

The testimonies of people from Greenock below were collected by the BBC and are a stark reminder of the impact of war on working people.
